20 points to 10 points
With Adwick's original League opponents Leeds Metropolitan University engaged in EDF Vase action Their first fifteen made the short journey down York Road for a hastily arranged friendly against Wheatley Hills Seconds. After a well contested game in which Adwick scored a penalty through Shaun Flaherty (Fly half) and were then awarded a penalty try after a period of sustained pressure which was converted by Flaherty. Wheatley replied with a converted try and a penalty to lead 12-10 at half time and then completed the victory with a penalty goal and an unconverted try in the second half
Adwick-le-Street Bedouins v Sheffield Medics II
41 points to 29
This excellent game of end to end rugby ended in Adwick's favour thanks to their determination to turn pressure into points. Tries from back rowers Barry Whinfrey, Chay Maw and Ross Davies, and winger Ricky Ellery plus three from veteran scrum half Ben Sheppard were supported by 3 conversions by full back Ryan Sands-Ellison. Medics replied with some flowing back play producing 5 tries only two of which were converted.
But the star of the afternoon was undoubtedly Matthew Bettinson who volunteered to referee the game at short notice and gave a sterling performance.
Next Saturday the Nomads are back in League action at Leeds Medics and the Bedouins are at home to Barnsley III in the South Yorkshire Merit table.
