Howson's letter to fans and volunteers

By Club Admin

Joe Howson has penned the following to AFC Emley's loyal support and hard-working volunteers.

“Your support is truly appreciated by us all at the club.” Joe Howson, AFC Emley manager

As the dust settles on a frantic 12 months since my appointment as first team manager at AFC Emley the season is complete with a respectable mid-table finish. I think it’s fair to say after the upheaval of the majority of the squad and a poor start, collectively it is a good achievement to finish midtable with some memorable wins on the way.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the chairman, committee and volunteers at the football club for their support throughout, at times, a very testing season. After such an inconsistent season result and performance wise, for the club to still have the third highest attendance in the league is a testament to those who turn up week in week out and your support is truly appreciated by us all at the club. Financially this is massive for the football club and while I will continue to work hard to build an exciting and successful side to increase the gate (and Barrie’s raffle!), any friends or family members you can bring along will make a difference for AFC Emley. The volunteers at Emley create a special environment that can never gain enough credit. Clean bar/food areas, great service, no litter around the ground, clean dressing rooms for both teams and smiling faces to name a few are all provided on a voluntary basis. This should be respected and somewhat repaid one way or another by management, playing staff and fans alike.

It was suggested that a manager’s ‘review’ of the season was put together but being in the thick of planning for the 2018/19 season it is difficult not to look forward optimistically with a settled preseason on the horizon. Myself and James have reflected thoroughly which has enabled us to plan for the forthcoming campaign. The last two games against Bolsover and Hallam were a pleasing way to sign off – giving hardworking performances full of quality. These types of performances are the benchmark for next 12 months and I hope you’ll join us for another season at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.

You can join Joe, the squad, Under 19s, volunteers and fellow fans at this Friday's presentation evening. The event starts at 7.00pm in the AFC Emley Sports Bar.
