Rhubarb Crumble

By Chris Bessex

Keynsham enjoy their just deserts.

AFC Keynsham's Saturday side finished their season of with another win by hanging on to a one nil at home to Rhubarb Athletic.

The K's seven game undefeated streak was tested to its limit by a Rhubarb side that did all but score.

As has been the case with recent games with Rhubarb the self destructive nature of the opposition makes playing them quite funny as they tend to abuse one another through out, and their forward line took some pelters after a string of misses.

Jay Powell made some top drawer saves before against the run of play the Mighty K took the lead when Ash Allen hit a thunderbolt. The shot moved around before dropping down the keeper’s throat and the speed was too much for the stopper who could only deflect it in to the roof of his own net.

Ben Jefferies spectacularly cleared off of his own goal line when the ball looked all but in, and minutes later was withdrawn with injury when he turned his ankle blocking a striker through on goal.

The K's laid it all on the line toward the end with Rhubarb pushing for an equaliser.

The final whistle was met with a Mighty Roar as Saturday football finished for the season at Manor Road with 3 points.

Craig Sutton was man of the match after standing out in this “backs to the wall” defensive display from a solid back five.
