Altrincham Kersal 1XV 19 vs Douglas (IoM) 15,
After possibly the most unusually difficult seasons for AK1XV, where each week it seemed we had to deal with yet another significant player missing due to injury, it was on the warmest day of the year so far and with a big crowd down, AK put in a passionate display of rugby, in their penultimate North One West fixture at home, kick off brought forward to 1:45pm to allow our Manx visitors the chance to catch their flight back to the Isle of Man.
After a frustrating first half, with AK camped mostly in the visitors half, we somehow found ourselves 10-0 down at half time.
No one knows really what was said at the half time huddle, but whatever it was it certainly lit the blue touch paper as AK staged a fantastic turn around, appearing to realise that to avoid relegation we had to secure a win plus additional bonus try points!
AK supporters and coaches hoarse with shouting, witnessed a mammoth fight back from the 10-0 score at halftime to comeback as the worthy victors 19-15, with tries from Matt Geiger, Sam Moncur and Callum Robinson and one conversion from Matt Tully.
The last 10 minutes was all AK, coming nail bitingly close to snatching that all important try on more than one occasion, AK battled hard in the closing moments but sadly it was all in vain, as we now see a return to the South Lancs Cheshire League One, no one can say that we didn't go down without a fight.
Next week we host Firwood Waterloo, where in the first game of the season we scooped a fantastic away win and the season looked to be a most promising one.
We'll be back!!
Support always welcome here at Stelfox Ave, 3pm, so come down and cheer on the lads, Captain's end of season dinner will follow later in the evening.
