Former Wigan Athletic star Jason Jarrett to run the line at Town tonight

Jason Jarrett, now 33 and playing for Chester City, is training to become a referee.

Jason commented "I've been fortunate to have a half decent career in football, and last year was my first playing part time, which gives me the opportunity to develop my other interest which is refereeing. I used to be an absolute nightmare with ref's, I'd always be shouting at them but now I see it from the other side and taking things into consideration and know what they have to go through. I've been doing it for 18 months now and progressing through the levels, but hopefully there is a space for me in the future."

Jarrett spent 3 years at Wigan Athletic and was an impressive box to box midfielder. After making some 95 appearances he moved on to Norwich City before then clocking up appearances for another 10 clubs before his current move to Chester City.

Town Chairman Mark Hayes commented "I was a big fan of Jason in his Latic's days, he was hard working and extremely committed. He also had bags of energy, but for one reason or another his career went down hill after Latic's.

This is our first season in the Lancashire League having taken our reserves out of the North West Counties Reserves Division. We did this for a couple of reasons, one factor being the standard of referee's. It is hard enough to officiate a game with the help from your linesmen, however in the Counties reserve league you don't even have that.

To then have an ex pro on the line like Jason in your first fixture just confirms to me that we have made the correct decision."

The game v Curzon Ashton Reserves will be played tonight, Thursday 15th August, 745pm kick off.

All Town Reserve games are £2 admission for Adults, and just £1 for all concessions.
