Ashton United have today signed defender D’Arcy O’Connor (subject to league ratification) after his release from Conference North side Hyde FC.

Born in Oldham, the 20 year-old has had experience with Rochdale, Workington and Hyde and will go straight into the Robins side for the away clash at Ilkeston FC tomorrow.

O’Connor spoke to our official website after signing on at Hurst Cross today and said he fully expects his new side to gain promotion this season;

“I’m really happy to join the club. It is no secret that it is a squad full of a great set of lads. Speaking to the manager’s I can tell they both have a great ambition to get promoted this season and I love their drive.”

Adding; “I received a phone call from Neil Gillespie and he told me the manager’s here wanted me to come down to the club, after hearing I had left Hyde.”

The 5'11" commanding defender made his professional debut for Rochdale on the 27th April 2013 and has a vast amount of footballing experience for someone so young.

He went on to say; “I know Neil, the goalkeeper coach well as he was with me when I was on loan at Hyde last season. I live near Hurst Cross and have always heard good things about the club.”

“I can bring a positive attitude to the club and a will to win. Hopefully I’ll contribute and add to what is already a good team.”

It is clear to see all ready that O’Connor is a very mature and level headed individual. Hyde FC froze him out of the squad after the Christmas & New Year period and the defender is excited to play football again… in the process leading his new side to the heights of the Conference North next season;

“I’m really excited to get playing again. I’ve not played for a good month now and I’m raring to get on the pitch and kick on for the rest of the season.”

“I fully expect Ashton united to get promoted this season, either automatically or in the play offs!”
