10 Man Robins Put To The Sword

By

Report Steve Lee

Ashton suffered only their second away defeat of the season as Worksop Town made the most of the Robins being down to ten men for almost
an hour.
The key moment of the game came when Danny Caldecott received a second yellow card when conceding a penalty that was converted by Ash
Burbeary.
Until then, the Robins had held the Tigers at bay despite the home side largely domninating the proceedings.
A whirlwind start from the home side saw Kern Miller head over following a corner and then Steve towers headed over.
Caldecott had Ashton's first chance with a long range effort that went over the bar.
Craig Robinson produced a goal-line clearance following a corner and Burbeary blazed over following more Worksop pressure.
Thomas Moore, starting in defence in place of the suspended skipper Chris Lynch got on the end of a free kick by Matty Burke, but failed
to guide his header on target.
Ten minutes from the break Caldecott, already having been booked following an earlier incident was adjudged to have felled Leon Mettem in
the area, and he must have feared the worst when the referee awarded a penalty. A second yellow followed and Burbeary sent Paul Phillips
the wrong way from the spot to give Town the lead.
Phillips twice came to Ashton's rescue with a comfortable save to deny Burbeary and then Mettam with a fine reflex save.
Ashton began the second half well, Aaron Burns turned well before firing into the side netting.
Burns played a huge part with the Ashton equaliser as Tom Baker's corner was headed into Burns path by Robinson, the striker produced a
fine turn and his cross across the face of goal and turned home by Matty Barlow.
Ashton weren't on level terms for long however, Craig King produced a cross that Mettam, looking suspiciously offside, headed past
Phillips from close range.
Burns fired just over from long range and Scott Hogan ran down the left only to shoot over as Ashton continued to push forward for a quick
response.
The third goal killed the game off as a contest, Luke Shiels headed home a free kick by Burbeary.
Worksop made it four within minutes as Phillips twice denied the Tigers in a goalmouth scramble, but substitute Lee Beeson wasn't to be
denied at the third attempt.
Town hadn't finished there as they added a fifth late on as Towers converted King's cross.
Ashton's misery was complete when Matty Kosylo blazed an injury time penalty over the bar after Shiels handled Tom Baker's goalbound shot.
