Aston Roar back...

By

...into form with Evans at the double

All of Chadlington was out in force but sadly not to spectate the football as It was the annual fete or “apple day” as it’s known as Aston travelled to Chadlington, looking to bounce back from the shambles of last week and hopefully getting to the core of the problem. With some in-cider information, Aston were expecting a tough challenge from the Chadlington side who only narrowly lost last week.

Edwards rang the changes, apart from not being able to drop himself although he did come armed with his very own oven gloves so he could catch any hot potatoes, he brought Crazy Dave Rabbich into the midfield to play alongside Vince “I got here at 12 so I wasn’t late” and James Quiff Fleming. Drifter Bean went into the centre forward role, with the flying pig playing wide left, who did eventually turn up after finding himself lost in the local temperate Chadlington Woods rooting in the earth for tuber, better known as truffles.

The only other change was Sam Rowe replacing Bully after being on great form for the reserves, a change predicted in Edwards team talk of the previous week. Tank Hedges, Clarkey and Molony made up the rest of a formidable looking back four, with the floppy haired wing wizard fish retaining his place wide right. Strong bench of Ross “love being sub” Fleming, Fat head Hewer and Matt Lombardo Smith. This was to be Ross Flemings 112th appearance and only his eight as a substitute.

The game started at a very good tempo, Aston well on top having the first of a many chances. A weak snout from Mr Pig glided gracefully onto the post and perm head flew in to volley the ball miles over. Aston piled on the pressure in the opening 10 mins, and finally got the break through when Vince Evans turned inside the box from a pass from Mr Bean and then Dave Rabbich trickery, Vince laced the ball home to settle any nerves that Aston may have had.

Chadlington offered very little resilience, and Vince juggled the ball into the box (literally) and slotted home to put Aston 2-0 up. This was shortly followed by the first substitution of the day. Drifter had been clattered and felt Dizzy, so with his head in a spin, he was replaced by Pico who went straight up front. We send our best wishes to Jamie and hope that he has a speedy recovery from the bruished cheek bone. One of Ross’ first touches was his unmentionables on the end of an overzealous Sam Rowe pass, questions were asked about if his touch was good enough.

Chances continued to come for Aston, including a Molony volley that nearly took out the busted tribute act at the fete, as they kept the ball and with a high tempo and Quiffy’s pirouettes and encouragement of two wide wide animals playing on the wings, surely another goal or 7 was only a matter of time?

Aston went into the break with the 2 goal advantage, Mr Fog woke himself up to give the team talk and encouraged that we continue to press and this showed dividend as the pressure didn’t stop. All in all it was an extremely positive teamtalk.

Chances came a plenty in the second half, possession was probably around 75% to Aston, but that third goal simply wasn’t coming. Vincenzo had 3 or 4 chances to get his hatrick before unselfishly squaring the ball to a very selfish greedy pink pig, who squealed in delight to tap home from 2cm out. 3-0 Aston and game even more so over. Edwards was enjoying his lack of work after last weeks debacle and decided to take the oven mitts off at this point and celebrate another clean sheet.

Special mentions must now go to the countless chances that Aston created. Lombardo Smith on to replace Vince, continued his drought at Chadlington by side footing pretty much every chance he had everywhere apart from on target. Ross hit 2 into the trees, with one followed by an excellent Fleming argument of “you should have let me have that Ross” with an inspirational reply of “you win some you lose some”. Fantastic.

All in all, a comprehensive victory for Aston, could of (and perhaps should of) been a lot more but it’s a massive improvement on last week and another 3 points and clean sheet should hopefully kick start the momentum.
Man of the match has to go to Vince Evans. 2 goals and an assist and an excellent positive performance in the centre of the park.

The whole team then went into Dan Longs favourite clubhouse (the square meterage is incredible) to discuss who missed the most chances. The thoughts soon turned to the molehills of the Cricket field and Aston hosting Stonesfield and trying to make it a fortress. It will be a tough game for sure.
