Back to league action this week as Aston arrived at a windy West Witney for a fixture in which they lost last year away at Nomads.
Introductions were required in the home changing room with an apparent 5 new signings from Billy Bircher and Aston arrived with just a few changes from last week. The fog and his thin hair in the sticks, Hewer joined a returning Clarkey and Molony in the back three, the architect and Nick continued there ever-present roles at wing back, with Daz moving into midfield to join Vince and Beeross with Pablorotti and Fish up top. Loved up Drifter and the pig on the bench.
In horrendously windy conditions, Aston chose to go against the wind in the first half. Fogs kicks barely reaching 20 yards (when they stayed on the pitch) and Aston started well with some decent passing and strong defending in the first period. Edwards made a smart save early on from Nomads top scorer Chris Laurence and with fish pulling one back to Beeross who had an early chance from few yards out put over. Fish then swam onto a decent ball grafted from the architect but blazed just over. Aston on top, time for a gaffer special.
An innocuous free kick from 25-30 (maybe 40 yards) for nomads lofted in and avoided everyone, even fog who was probably concentrating on keeping the thinning hair on his head stood still, begged for a clearance but with the ball bouncing 5 yards out and straight in. Aston defending so stoutly against the wind but found themselves 1-0 down. Edwards distraught and did keep out a free kick from the Nomads late in the half but into the break behind.
Half Time; Nomads 1 Aston 0
With the wind behind Aston second half, they knew they had to graft to get back into this game. Pressing high with a change of shape to 442, the wide men were getting plenty of joy in and behind the full backs. Another wide men had a helping hand in the equaliser for Aston. Good work from Pablorotti released the ball to the architect who played in Fish to fire home on the half volley into the roof of the net to get Aston back into the game. The least they deserved 1-1 with 25 minutes to go.
Aston continued to press. Vince and Beeross playing together in the 2 in centre midfield were successfully pressing high and helped to craft Aston's second a couple of minutes later. Lee Beer on hand to notch another important goal from midfield. Ball bounced around the box mix by Nick and slide tackled home by Beeross. Aston in front and on top.
2 soon became 3 for Aston within minutes. A wonderful team grafted goal saw the architect finishing a free flowing move and a fantastic cross from Angus. 3-1 to Aston.
Aston did not drop off the pace and still had time to waste another couple of chances to go further in front. Firstly Vince missed a great chance following a fish pass and in the same movement Angus header over from a yard out, Fat head Hewer then missed a chance to lob the ball over the keeper following an Edwards clearance. Pig also thinking he could blam one in from miles out!
All in all a good strong performance and 3 points importantly on the board. Man of the Match this week another tough one, Daz defending and breaking up play extremely well from Centre Mid then Centre Back, high pressing and simple stuff from Beeross was good to see and the wide lads also have stormers. This week though MOM goes to Vince. Tireless running right until the last , battling in midfield where needed an assisting with creating a good all round team performance.
Final Score: Nomads 1 Aston 3
Well done lads , loads of players available this Saturday for the gaffer to pick from for another important league fixture.
