FC were soundly beaten by a visiting Chalfont who didn’t really have to move out of first gear to register this win.

Report by Jools Thomas

A goal in either half was enough to leave manager Davis Haule wondering where his team’s first home win since October will come from.

The first move of the match saw CSP’s Alex Paine drift in a cross shot which Ashley Jenkins had the measure of, grabbing the ball at the second attempt. George Beattie was the next man to test the home defence with a well-placed header but again Jenkins was in the right position to cut out danger.

Jordan Jenkins might have had more luck on another day after making only a slight connection to a Garry Jones’ free kick, which went behind for a corner. From the resultant corner, Jones was a little unlucky to see his low shot brush the outside of the post. Paine then blasted an effort over the bar after Maxwell Holland had cleverly played him in and this was followed by the opening goal. The ball fell to George Beattie and a slight deflection on his strike wrong footed Jenkins to give his side the lead. George Osubu could have increased his side’s lead on the stroke of half time. A needless free kick was conceded on the edge of the box but Osubu’s shot was straight at Jenkins.

After the break, Beattie had a low shot whistle just past the post as CSP continued their afternoon stroll. Ben Stevens appeared then to grab the equaliser but the referee judged the FC captain had climbed on his man as he headed home. This was followed by FC’s best chance of the match. Ty Deacon and Davis Haule combined well to give Brian Haule a clear sight of goal however; Brian could only hit the ball straight at CSP keeper Carl Dennison from a few yards.

An off the ball incident involving Davis might have been punished more severely than just the yellow. Play continued unabated and the visitors increased their lead without too much effort. Mahlondo Martin cut in from the right and as Jenkins advanced, the striker slipped the ball into an empty net.

Ty Deacon might have done better with a sliced shot under pressure as the clock advanced towards full time but to be honest most FC fans were pleased to hear the referee’s final whistle to bring to a close what had been a very disappointing display.
