A sunny sky overhead provided a brilliant day for both players and supporters on Saturday as Banff hosted Glenrothes at Duff House. Both teams had a strong start, and Glenrothes were the first to take points after a kick to the corner was turned into a try by the winger. They came at Banff again, and used the hands wide to put him over once more. Though Banff were holding onto the ball well and putting themselves in good positions, too many little errors gave the visitors the opportunities to take another three tries. Three conversions to accompany left the half time score at 0 - 31.
The second half was much better for the Banff men, with more possession giving them the chance to show what they can actually do. Prop Rob Bruce used his powerful running to get the first points for the home team, however the conversion from captain Gordon Robertson was just wide. Next came John Hester on the wing, who went over in the corner after some well worked phases. Again, the kick just missed the posts. A well read interception for the Glenrothes stand off gave them another converted try, but Banff hit back and Nico Clark used an explosive burst to get over the whitewash. This time Robertson's conversion sailed right through the posts. One more try for Glenrothes at the end gave a full time score of 17 - 50.
This game, though resulting in a loss, was a much better reflection of how Banff can really play when they keep the ball in hand. Next weekend they welcome Dunfermline RFC at home, with an earlier 1330 kick off. All supporters welcome.
