Declan Maguire

The Club is pleased to welcome Declan to Upritchard Park

Bangor Rugby Club is delighted to welcome a new signing from the other side of the world. With family links to Ireland, Declan Maguire is equally pleased to visit his ancestral homeland, while also experiencing northern hemisphere rugby for the first time.

As is quite often the case, the connection with Bangor came in a quite random manner. During a tour to Northern Ireland, a travelling official from an Australian rugby club mentioned in passing that a player he knew would be keen to come over before starting his university course. When word of this reached the ever alert ears of Bangor’s recruitment officer, Danny Curran, things moved quickly and the rest, as they say, is history.

Having started his rugby at Cathedral School in Townsville, North Queensland – a school with strong touring links to the British Isles – Declan also played for his local club, gaining valuable experience of playing at a senior level. With more than a passing resemblance to Jonny Sexton, he describes himself as a ‘utility back’, but is most comfortable playing in either the out half or full back position. No matter what position he ends up playing in, Bangor RFC wish him a happy and successful time at Upritchard Park.

Bangor Rugby Club is very grateful to the continued support of Aurora Aquatic and Leisure Complex in making their gym and fitness facilities available to Declan while he settles in to his new surroundings. The photograph shows Danny Curran (Bangor Rugby Club), Declan Maguire, Gaynor McMahon (Customer Advisor) and Will Carson (Gym Manager) pictured with details of the new Warrior Assault Obstacle Course. This is the newest Obstacle Course Race to hit Northern Ireland in 2018. Taking place at Bangor Aurora on Saturday 6th October, Warrior Assault is a fun packed muddy obstacle course race for all ages, 30+ obstacles, 5k and 10k options for Adults, a separate 1k course for kids, you name it, Warrior Assault's got it! Contact Bangor Aurora directly for more details or to book your place.
