Silence at Cross Hill Park...
By Mathew Cook
Bare take all 30 points in Cross Hill Park derby as we say g'day to the mouth
After a bit of rain, Frank (thank goodness) lost the toss and Westgate 'A' elected to bat. After the 20/20 success Westgate were quick out the blocks to race onto 19-0 with Carter (13) punishing anything loose. But Oz (1-10) struck with his class swing bowling in partnership with the seam bowling of Cook (2-10) at the other end doing the damage to the top order. Nev took his 3rd victim but then Westgate 'A' looked to be building a partnership with a change in bowling and the score 52-4. De Silva (21) with some lusty blows but in vein as Bhardwaj struck (3-23) with one of 2 catches from captain snail. Schweppsy (4-14) was on a hat-trick at one point with his mix of dross and reasonable line and length bowling, aided with a neat catch from Oz. With Schad desperate to get onto bowl after 0-42 and 0-12, Archy tried his best to disco dance whilst trying to catch a returned ball but failed miserably! Westgate 'A' slumping to 64 all out giving Bare 15 overs and having to wait for tea.
After the quick change around F.Smith (14) and Aus bound Schewaddywaddy (17) seemed to be cruising until the daft bat lofted the ball to Parrott off the bowling of Chapman (1-15). Craig then put the commentators curse on his captain saying he was going for a red ink not out then he nicked the next ball and was bowled by Hannigan (1-14) thus he skulked off to the doctors to be check out (hope the stomach and head are ok!). Bionic Baz (19 not out ) and Oz (10 not out) then saw Bare home in a professional manor in just over 20 overs meaning Bare do the league double over local rivals Westgate'A,' but failed in the cup! Next a possible 2nd vs 3rd game at home vs Holme next week. Right BBQ in the middle of nowhere for me and a hot tub and £96 bill for OZ!!! The club and committee would like to thank Schaddy all the best as he emigrates to Aus and thanks for turning out. Cross Hill Park will be quieter without you!
