B...B...Bare bounce back in local derby
By Mathew Cook
Bare beat Westgate in close Cross Hill Park encounter.
With only 6 plyers there for the toss, the skipper decided to lose the toss and Bare were told to field in the post 30 degree heat. Although Bare's opening bowlers were tight Westgate 'A's batters were resilient and at 15 over drinks Westgate 'A' were 44/0. Frist change bowlers seemed to be getting no luck until young Copsey (2/14) struck with catches from Mo and Robbie removing both openers, Stephenson (26) and Olde (19). Hannigan played a captains innings as Westgate 'A' were 81/2 off 25. It took a stunning catch from 'fat lad' and one of two catches from Nev to give Moses (2/19) his rewards after he turned his ankle before bowling a ball. Bhardwaj (1/17) also picking up rewards as they slowed Westgate's progress. Westgate 'A' were looking at posting a 160ish total then White (1/34) and Cook (3/33) came back onto bowl at the death with Cook claiming his second career hat trick aided at the end with a superb catch from MJ and some great fielding from AJ. Hannigan (43 not out) went to carry his bat as Westgate 'A' finished on 139/9 off there overs.
After a lovely tea Bare smashed there way out the blocks as Bare were 51/1 off 10 overs with captain Martin (10) the only victim for Vaughan (1/30). White (16) and Oz put on over 50 runs but were let off with in total 7 dropped catches (you could say almost Bare-esque!) in which Oz capitalised as he went past 50 in 49 balls (thanks stato GA!). Gani (2/14) struck and then one of two catches for the skipper Hannigan saw the a Bare batter (can't be named due to only scoring single figures but did score a 6!). 111/2 became 121/6 in no time as Rehman (3/53) was ripping through the middle order including the demise of Ozgrandmotherly for a well struck 81. Jay (7) seemed to see it through until Conroy (1/43) struck, but the (cough cough) experienced head of Cook (12 not out) saw Bare over the line with nearly 10 overs to spare against close rivals Westgate 'A.' Next week is Trimpell at home as Bare look to go up the table and Trimpell look to challenge for the title. Top BBQ from Kendall's and now to think of how to top Adele's picture ;-)
