Beccs U13s 40 v 10 Maidstone

A game of two halves.

Beccs welcomed Maidstone to the den, for our first age group encounter, in we anticipate at least 4 years.

Maidstone started very brightly, with some strong running, and a lightening quick and very impressive right wing, who had gas to spare and richly deserved at least one of the scores. Stones dominated the ruck area in numbers and with strong runners created space and demonstrated that this would be no easy fixture.

Stones raced into an early and deserved lead, pulling together many phases and keeping the ball alive, the first 10 mins were maidstones for sure. Beccs during this period also pulled together some good phase play, keeping our structure together, with excellent strong running and low body positions from Oliver.B, Josh and Fin, all very determined to make their mark on the game. Oliver.B very unlucky to score just over the dead ball line, and therefore ruled out. This determination by the side not to give in was most impressive.

At 0-2 the next score was crucial, Beccs through supporting each other, and usual bullocking rhino runs from Fraser, who scored a very quick fire hat-trick inside 5 minutes , helped set the tone for the rest of the game. Half-time messages were intensity, commitment to the rucks and tackling.

A very strong second half team performance, the boys working hard for each other, and pleasingly, defence holding strong keeping the determined visitors at bay. The pick of the bunch, most of the team getting their hands on the ball, going through the phases, passing the ball at the right times resulting in Ewan scoring early in the second half.
