U16 Great Team Win
By Seamus McLaughlin
Hard fought game
Our first match back at a sunny but blustery Sparrows Den, proved to be a hard match against tough local opposition Bromley.
With the lineout proving to be a strong weapon throughout the game, Beccs started well and after a strong set piece,
Alec Jafrato was unlucky not to finish off a try after 7 minutes.
On 18 minutes after some fairly even play, Beccs applied repeated pressure on the Bromley line, and
James Lipka playing advantage, feinted to pass it down the line and ran in under the posts for Beccs first try. Converted by
Ben Vaillant.
7 - 05 minutes later, after a strong twisting run from
St John Amon, he scored out on the left, which
Ben Vaillant bravely converted considering the conditions.
14 - 0After 30 minutes with Bromley threatening very close to the Beccs line, they had a great penalty chance reversed for dissent. Letting Beccs off the hook, we resumed pressure on them further up the field.
HALF TIME: Beccs 14 Bromley 0Bromley started more strongly in the second half but Beccs continued to play some great rugby, repeatedly getting the ball along our back line with
St John Amon scoring his 2nd try and Becc's 3rd after 8 minutes with a long run in, even finding time to step one of the Bromley players in the dead ball area !!
Ben Vaillant again converted
21 - 0With Bromley starting to use their big runners, they still struggled with the pressure from Beccs who scored their 4th after 10 mins. Passing the ball along the line and some some strong looping play, with spare support players lining up, 4 passes followed by
Arthur Betts touching down for a great team try, converted again by
Ben Vaillant.
28 - 0Eventually Bromley managed an unconverted try after 15 mins making it
28 - 5, followed by a pushover converted try on 22 mins, which appeared to have been held up but was allowed continue, making it
28 - 12Some valiant defending from Beccs prevented Bromley from scoring again, including a great run out of defence from
Liam McCoy.
FINAL SCORE: Beccs 28 v Bromley 12
Man of The Match: James Van Selm who was fearless in defence, making many try saving tackles as the last man.
