On Saturday 27th January, just after the President's Luncheon, Buckingham Rugby Club presented the first two, of four, £1,000 cheques to charity following another successful fundraising rugby tournament at the end of December.
Harper's Day calls on past and present players to pay to play and for spectators to make a donation to watch. The combination of the two, plus bar and BBQ, raised £3,745 for charity plus the Rugby Club rounded that up to £4,000, thus enabling us to give £1,000 to each of the 4 nominated charities.
Presenting the cheques on this occasion was Matt Harper to Margo Jackson and Jan Rush from YC2 - Buckingham and Winslow Young Carers. A local cause that supports youngsters who care for parents and siblings who have a range of physical or mental health conditions. Some of these young people provide care to those with terminal illnesses, parents with alcohol or drugs dependency or learning disabilities or perhaps chronic debilitating illnesses so it's a truly worthwhile cause.
There is a huge "feel-good" factor for the club in being able to provide support to good causes, even more so when that support is close to home. Thank you to everyone that participated.
