The draw had given us an 80 mile trip to the Crewe area. Duncan and I decided to go by car as the trains would have meant a few changes.
You never really realise that there are no signs for grounds in the smaller towns, so after asking a few locals we arrived at The Dabbers ground.
Quick look in the club shop to buy a pin badge, then through the turnstiles to what I must say is another tidy little ground.
The Dabbers has 2 reasons why they may have this nickname. The main one from the leather tanning industry or the other from dabbing mortar on some of the old town buildings.
This game saw us see our first well known footballer in the form of Dean Saunders whose son Callum was playing for Nantwich.
The jump in level was apparent and Worksop had come to defend and with the first half ending level at 1-1 Worksop had done their jobs. Best chant from Worksop being “Evostick you’re having a laugh!”
Nantwich turned up the gas in the second half and ran out comfortable 5-2 winners. So now we are following Nantwich and I’ve just learnt they have drawn Blyth Spartans at home.
The gate was 375. Weather, miserable. And we were back in BJ for 6.15.
Job done and looking forward to the next round.
