Incentive-based subscriptions for 2019

By Timothy Abraham

Motion passed at AGM

At the 2018 Annual General Meeting, a proposal from chairman Andrew Abraham to introduce incentive-based subscriptions for 2019 was unanimously passed.

A full explanation of what this means can be found below.

Overview
The club relies on volunteers to deliver a number of activities on and off the field. It is the view of the SMC that the burden such tasks often fall on a few members, rather than being more evenly distributed across the whole club.

Accordingly, there will now be an increase to the level of subscriptions paid by members, but with a mechanism to reduce this amount by contributing to the club on and off the field.

In particular, this presents an opportunity to ensure adequate resourcing of the junior section of the club, or contributing to grounds maintenance.

Subscriptions and associated relief rates
Subscriptions have been increased as follows (discounted price in brackets):

Senior membership: £100 (£70)
Senior unemployed / student: £75 (£50)

The level of subsidy would be £25-30. Members can only receive the subsidy once a season.

All other subscriptions remain as current.

Eligible positions
Members of the SMC, plus vice-captains of the three senior teams would qualify for the reduced rate in reflection of their work.

Further roles are listed in appendix one.

Alternatives to SMC roles
As an alternative to holding any of the roles above, players may select one of, or a combination of, the below options:

Junior assistance
Senior members that assist in two or more junior training sessions or umpire in two or more junior matches will also be eligible for a discounted rate.

Members must commit to specific dates in advance in order to benefit from the discount.

Ground assistance
We shall be instituting monthly ground days, similar to the annual “Cricketforce” days. Senior members that assist in two or more of these days will be eligible for a discounted rate.

Members must commit to specific dates in advance in order to benefit from the discount.

Major events organisation
Any club member responsible for organising and project managing any of the events listed in appendix two would also be eligible for discount. Only one person can receive the benefit for each event.

Failure to fulfil requirements
Any senior player who utilises the discount but does not fulfil the requirements above, or hold an eligible position, will be liable for the outstanding subscriptions. Should a player leave the club, his registration will be retained until such debts are fulfilled.
All players will be required to sign a statement to this effect when requesting the discount.

Appendix one – roles eligible for discounted subscriptions
• All roles on the SMC
• Vice captains of 1st XI, 2nd XI or 3rd XI
• Colts captain/team manager (as appropriate)
• Bar manager
• Social media manager
• Any junior team manager

Appendix two – events eligible for discounted subscriptions
• Holywell Sixes
• Club bonfire
• End-of-season awards night
• Christmas quiz
