We went to Rhostyllen tonight missing Titch, Pughie, Bulla, and Arthur from Saturday's game, in came Dan Jarrett,Owen, Atko and Liam.
Adam Lovatt was on the bench after a long absence training to be a father, Josh Coleclough and late call up Ben Bailey were also
in the squad.
The home team featured the same starting 11 as Saturday because it was vital for them to win to stay in the promotion hunt.
They started the brighter, we seemed second to every ball early on, Atko and Joe were outstanding in blocking and making last ditch tackles. But Steve Jones long range shot cam back off the post, and Gibbo made a fantastic save from close range to deny the hosts.
On the small pitch the hosts were using the long ball to good effect, and this resulted in the opening goal as Mark Williams found himself clear on 29 minutes, rounding Gibbo and tapping home the opener. This woke us up and we started to get into the game. But the half ended at 1-0.
We started feeding the channels better in the second half, and Josh Price was giving us lots of options with his clever play, It was on surprise when we got the equaliser after good work by Liam and Josh, and a great finish into the bottom corner by Owen Williams.
The home team were now getting anxious, but Gibbo again had to produce a superb reflex save to keep us level. Then on 76 minutes we took the lead, Owen with some magic down the right, dancing past defenders at ease before squaring to MIKE MARSTON who
smashed the ball home from 10 yards. And 4 minutes later a ball was fed through to JOSH PRICE who lobbed the ball superbly over advancing keeper Josh Jones.
However, on 83 imnutes the home team were given a lifeline, after an error of judgement by Gibbo who should have come to claim the ball, but his hesitancy forced Joe Henry into a header which went over Gibbo for an own goal. This revaitalised Rhostyllen who pushed
Drew Wickens up front and went very direct. It paid off follwoing a scramble and Steve Jones was first to react to volley in an equaliser.
There was still time for Marston to send a stinging shot just past the post before referee Barry Rondel brought the game to an end.
Probably a fair result on the night, our back 4 were awesome, but the watching Penley players went home happiest and we dented
Rhostyllen's ambitions.
Lots of challengers for Man of the Match, but JOSH PRICE gets the vote for a fine display and making the home defenders uncomfortable all night.
