Play off chasing Stocksbridge had a dream start with a goal inside the first two minutes as Harrison Biggins free kick curled beyond the wall and past Curtis Pond.
Biggins made it 2-0 in the fifth minute getting on the end of a cross to divert the ball beyond Pond into the far corner.
Leading goalscorer Jack Langston was a whisker away from a goal back with a fierce drive which was deflected inches over the bar by the legs of keeper David Reay.
Chasetown were handed a lifeline 5 minutes before the break following a mazy run from Liam Holt saw him pushed to the ground and Langston converted the penalty sending Reay the wrong way.
After the interval the Scholars created three chances in quick succession. Leon Miles downward header was straight at the keeper then Miles volleyed just over the crossbar.
Then, skipper James Dance fired at goal from the edge of the area and Reay was straight behind it.
The visitors defended resolutely though and held out for three vital points.
