Rugby growing in the South

By Lyall Harrison

Look around

Rugby not only made the Olympics this year, and not only is finally a professional sport in The United States, but in the South (and Tennessee in particular) it is growing at an astronomical pace!

Look at our neighbours to the north Nashville, they had 77 players show up to their first practise of the 2016 fall season!! That's incredible!

High school rugby is growing faster than ever and college teams are are earning more and more scholarships to award to upcoming players. Within a 1 hour drive from Chattanooga there are 5 college teams who could all filter into the surrounding teams, and all the TN based teams (Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga) have continuously improved not only their club size, but the competition levels as well.

It is exciting to see how the season will unfold with each of the TN teams playing one another twice before the playoffs, and although there are rivalries (new and old) we respect the game and the growth it's undergoing, and look forward to the competition and increased support throughout this great culture.

Nooga's first home weekend is October 15th at Montague Park.
