Under 14s win at Bishops Stortford

A bright October morning again, at this distant venue, and a superbly supported away team, with a turn out in excess of 20 from Chess Valley.

In fact, a morning of success with the opening kick-off from Bishop Stortford being returned by Toby for a try, followed by a business like conversion from Ed, to put Chess Valley 7 points in front.

The next kick from Stortford met with little better.

This time Josh scored a very similar try, and the fans on the touch line decided they were going to need to take notes to keep up with this match.

Stortford rallied and started to defend from this point, and Chess were relieved to be able to demonstrate their ability to move the ball as a team.

There then followed:

 A try from Joseph – converted by Ed – score line now at 19-0

 A try from Rory to bring the score to 24-0 - with 20 mins played.

Stortford managed to kick one of the very few penalties conceded by Chess away and just before half time managed to establish themselves in the Valley’s half for the first time. Unfortunately, they came away empty handed again.

Chess Valleys performance remained strong through the second half with:

 Two tries from Joseph

 A Try from Adam

 A Try from Toby

 Two tries from Ed, both scored with marathons from Chess Valley’s Half, and including a memorable pause to take in the scenery.

The last try was arguably the best of the match. With strong rucking by the forwards, the ball passed efficiently through hands from the back of the ruck to the wing, leaving Joseph to collect and score, completing his hat-trick for the day.

Added to this was a mixture of conversions, including a successful drop kick from Rory, to leave the Valley with 64 unanswered points.

We saw a slick performance from the Valley U14s, with very few handling errors.

The training is definitely paying dividends for this team, who are facing a more challenging prospect against Welwyn at Home next week.
