Gladiators confirm coaching change

By Jim Green

Chester Gladiators welcome Roger Pickering to coaching ranks as Adam Turner steps down as head coach.

Following what has been a challenging season for the club, Adam Turner has stepped down from his role as head coach with immediate effect.

This was an extremely difficult decision for all parties but one mutually agreed to be in the best interests of the club as the Gladiators battle to preserve our North West Men's League Division Three status.

Adam has given outstanding service to the Gladiators over a number of years and the club wishes to place on record its gratitude for his commitment and dedication, and it is hoped he will return in the near future to continue to be part of the club moving forwards.

We are very pleased to confirm Roger Pickering will be joining this week with a view to him taking over as head coach for the remainder of the season. Roger has vast experience in rugby league having played for clubs including Trafford Borough and Prescot Panthers, and held various senior coaching roles, most recently Manchester Met University. He has also been head coach of Winnington Park RUFC and is now backs and defence coach at Northwich RUFC.

Gladiators chairman Jim Green said: "While results this season have been disappointing, we are determined to have a strong end to the season and this change provides an exciting opportunity for current, returning and new players to start afresh and move forwards positively.

"We would like to reiterate our thanks to Adam for everything he has done for the club and to wish Roger good luck. I know he is relishing getting started and I'm sure the players will be respond to him."

Chester Gladiators welcome new players and anyone interested in finding out more about playing for the club can call 07512 355396 or email info@chestergladiators.com.
