Cecil’s 2nd XV made the shortish trip up the M6 to Lightfoot Green, the home of Preston Grasshoppers. Despite conceding a try early on, Chester sneaked ahead by half time and did enough to keep the home side at arms length to record a bonus point win. Two first half tries from James Hattersley, both converted by Pete Towers ensured Chester went into the sheds with a 10-14 lead. After the break Shay Owen extended the lead. Pete Towers added the extras. Wing Tom Jones extended the lead, it happens all the time, before PGH hit back with a converted try reducing the lead to 9 points. Second row Adam Smith crashed over to extend the lead, with Alex Lloyd taking over the kicking duties slotting the conversion. There was time for PGH to secure a try bonus point before the final whistle blew. A super performance from the 2s.
