Chippenham 3rds v Melksham 3rds

By

Rugby was the winner!!!

The gentlemen of the Thirds were flying the flag as the only team at home so the hallowed # 1 pitch awaited!! The excitement was soon quashed as Melksham arrived bravely but with only 7 players!! So Wheeler discussed with Matt Melksham capt, but Chippenham having a full fifteen plus subs , a referee coming from Wales [thanks Matt Wray] , a buoyant crowd we had to put the game on and get back to the bar for the six nations!!?? So the teams were evened up Wheeler asked for volunteers [better than a pressed man] and it was agreed 20 mins each way bargain!! To quote Dave Nickson post game "I like 20 mins each way!!" So lets get it on and Chippenham were soon in to the game with the lively Matt Wray scoring from close range and converting his try. Another great field position Robert Fielder scored out wide great move conversion missed by Wray. So the Chippenham/Melksham players were showing up and wanting to up set proceedings and scoring next. The development players Jamie Kerr and George Brookes were showing up well and it was Brookes to score next great pace [only 5 more to match Lewis Tilley]. Melksham scored again from close range not converted. It was Simon Garraway first game since school unsure how many years but welcome and also showing up well. New player Chris Johnson was returning the ball back powerfully and one occasion took out ex Chippenham Sam Goulding [rest up]. So Chippenham with 5 props were dominant at set piece and with Jamie Kerr was flying high at line-out time. So the half ended with Fielder and Brookes scoring again. So players were swapped at half time. Unfortunately Arran Bell suffered a back injury rest up. So the second half continued in much the same vain with Kerr finding his D squad colleague Brookes to score out wide great pace and hatrick complete!! Now with Tom Case and Regan back on the Chippenham side it was Case who scored a hatrick ably assisted by his training partner Rob Fielder. However Fielder was being warned by the referee for encroachment all day sir!! Captain Wheeler tried a goose step on returning the kick off more like donkey step!! Matt Spurway out stepped Wheeler to score for Melksham. Matt Wray converted four of those tries, with Case missing his out wide.
Final Score Chippenham 3rds 55 -15 Melksham 3rds.
MOM: Tom Case
So a few thank you's: All players for playing in the right spirit, water boy Bibble, touch judges Rick Mcabe/Richard Kerr, Matt Wray for not wanting to referee and especially the referee coming from Wales.
Next week: Away to Swindon 3rds meet 1245 unfortunately Swindon unable to commit to early kick off.
