Hosts over powered by dominant Chippenham

By

Injuries don’t stop Chippenham from completing a dominant performance against the hosts St Bernadettes.

In the second game of the day, the Chiefs played against the host team, St Bernadettes. With a small squad anyway and two players inured it was potentially a very difficult fixture for the Chiefs. With the coaches having to play people out of position it required a huge team performance from Chippenham if they were going to prove successful.
The coaches had said their piece and let the players lead and ask questions of themselves. As the game started the Chiefs pressure defence led by Callum A and Tom H paid off with St B’s making lots of mistakes and the Chiefs pinning them into their own 22. All the pressure soon paid off as Chippenham scores three tries in the first half. Whenever the opposition did manage to stretch the Chiefs defence, the wingers and ful back were able to shut down any danger. James L, Joe L and Julius all putting in fantastic cover tackles to stop the St B’s dangerous winger. James L got his just rewards for his outstanding defensive display when, following anothe huge counter ruck from the Chippenham forwards in their own 22, the ball found its way to James who raced the length of the field to score. The Chiefs did concede one try late on when the dangerous number 11 found a bit of space and just managed to stay in touch despite great scramble defence from the Chiefs.
All in all a fantastic morning for the Chiefs. A few things to work on in training, mainly the exit plans when in their own 22, leaving it to a tight head prop, Simon, to put in a clearing kick is not advisable.
