Bears Lord it over Litherland

The first thirty minutes was very even with neither side creating many chances. Jeavons came
closest for the home side. A strong run into the Bears box saw
Craig Ellison turn the ball round for a
corner. At the other end the Bears were struggling with the wind which saw a number of balls being
over hit.
Steve Foster had a chance when a ball over the referee fell to him, but his lob went over the bar
with just the keeper to beat. The deadlock was broken on 42 minutes, Foster making amends for the
earlier miss.
Bev Burey played the ball out to him on the right, he controlled it brilliantly, took one touch
then hit it over the keeper, giving him no chance. 1-0 Bears.
Litherland were almost level a minute later when a dangerous cross saw
Tom Stephens with an excellent
clearing header keep them out. The final action saw a Litherland corner cleared off the Bears line by
Rick Peters.
Half time Litherland 0-1 Congleton Town
The second half started strongly for the Bears and they almost doubled their lead when Foster
played in
Dan Cope, who controlled the ball and shot only for the keeper to tip the ball around the post.
The Bears continued to apply the pressure, Cope with a ball across the box and a free kick from
Dean Warburton which was whipped across goal.
On the hour the Bears doubled their lead. Sub
Billy Hasler-Cregg picked the ball up on the left, beat a
defender then crossed to Cope who was brought down in the box. He got up and put away the
penalty with aplomb. 2-0 Bears.
A good move saw Stephens to Hasler-Cregg who crossed to Cope, his shot was well saved by the
keeper.
Ellison was not having to work too hard in the Bears goal, but he saved brilliantly on 70 minutes
when a shot across goal saw him paw or away.
The Bears brought on
Tom Schofield to strengthen the Midfield and this blocked even more Litherland
work.
Mini Adegbenro came close with a chance such went inches wide. The final sub saw
John Main on for the
last few minutes and he was the final finisher in added time. Warburton played a superb ball
through the home defence to him and he slotted the ball wide of the keeper. 3-0 Bears.

Steve Foster who
chased well all night and topped it off with the goal of the game.
