Nomads Academy Tour 2018 - Day Two Review

By Jay Catton

Sides enjoy training session at Real Madrid and games vs La Liga Academy Getafe, including a remarkable win for our under 11s!

Following a long travelling day yesterday, all players, staff and parents awoke fully refreshed and ready for the first full day of this years Madrid trip.

Players enjoyed 9:00 breakfast before departing Hotel Se Futbol at 10:30, as they travelled to Real Madrid training ground to enjoy a training session at the clubs official training venue used by the academy and first team.

Before leaving the hotel a number of players and staff enjoyed a meet and some photographs with ex Real Madrid and Spain captain Fernando Hierro who is currently staying at the same hotel.

On arrival at Real Madrid, players were split into two groups one including the U8s and U9s with the second U10s and U11s where sessions both taken by the Real Madrid academy staff.

Two fantastic sessions for our players which included ball mastery, small sided possessions and games in really enjoyable sessions be all.

Following training the Nomads party enjoyed lunch at the Real Madrid facility, before heading back to the hotel to rest and recover in preparation for a big evening of games vs Getafe Academy.

17:15 the players, staff and parents departed to Getafe for their first fixtures of this tour.

Before our sides headed to Getafe, team coaches announced their teams captains for the tour, who were given their captains armbands along with pennants to distribute to away teams whilst on tour.

Those selected included Finlay Meredith under 8s, Jacob Barlow under 9s, Leo Heath under 10s and Harry Serridge under 11s. A big well done to all those four selected to lead the Nomads sides whilst on tour.

The under 8s were first up who were defeated by five goals to nil against a very strong Getafe side. In a much bigger format and set up than the U8s are regularly used to back home, our mini sides adapted well through out the fixture and enjoyed a fantastic experience against a very strong outfit.

Our under 9s took a one nil lead thanks to a Lennon Young strike early on. But Getafe hit back with two goals soon after, before Nomads again took the lead with strikes from Levi Kennedy and a second wonder strike from Lennon Young. But despite the good start from Nomads, Getafe who had beaten Real Madrid the week earlier at this age group, took control and ran out nine three winners.

The under 10s took the field in the third fixture and put in a very strong and competitive performance which didn't deserve the seven two score line. Two consolation strikes coming from Ellis McQue and Drew Hayes.

But the performance and result of the evening came from our under 11s who remarkably recorded a two one victory against the Spanish host side. The Nomads had taken a first half lead thanks to a Luca Williams-Easton goal. But Getafe hit back just after the second half, before a last minute winner from skipper Harry Serridge, sealed a superb victory in a performance which saw the Nomads defend and work so hard without the ball and were clinical where chances arose for themselves. A huge well done to Jason Bell and his side.

A great day yet again which saw the Nomads Academy players again represent the club and their families very well.

Day three tomorrow sees another full day of action starting in the morning with training sessions at Athletico Madrid followed by evening games vs Alcoron.

Like day one, full photo album from all of todays action has been uploaded onto the clubs facebook page which can be seen on the below link:
