Spirited Nomads Throw Points Away.

Individual errors left visitors with mountain to climb.

Nomads U19s looked to avenge the heart breaking penalty Youth Cup exit earlier in the season following 97th & 99th minute goals for Bangor.

However, in a match in which the visitors were dominant in possession and played the better football they let themselves down by awarding the visitors a three goal lead. The spirits younger side fought back well and finished strong; hitting the cross bar, having chances cleared off the line and having a second penalty appeal turned down.

Having started the match well and controlled in possession Nomads failed to capitalise on their strong start. Just after the half hour mark they were made to pay for poor decsion making; with a freekick in the opposition half floated into the box from a central position with too many men committed forward, when short play would have made much more sense. On the counter young Nomads central defender Karter Cutler-Evans, making only his second appearance was left exposed. Unfortunately, his attempted headed clearance was upset by the opposition striker and landed in the strikers path on the edge of the box to finish 1v1.

A deflating first half was all too family for the Nomads who had wasted opportunities to be in front faced further misery when another failed clearance fell at the feet of a Bangor attacker and unfortunately the impressive midfielder Iwan Rogers had little choice but to bring him down and concede the penalty to make it 2-0 on the 49th minute.

Pressing to get back in the game and showing plenty of promise through excellent link up play the Nomads had chance with debutant striker Sam Haley really beginning to threaten. However, against the run of play in was Bangor who struck next and extended their lead when the athletic Luke Blizard got caught out on the break and couldn't stop a cross coming into the box which missed everyone and was nearly finished at the back post on the 66th minute.

What followed, the reaction, showed exactly why the Nomads should not be written off and that whilst pretty football doesn't always win games, there is plenty more to this side. Not giving up the visitors continued to show commitment and fight and battled their way back into the game. Leading from right back captain Jake Van Schie epitomised the Nomads spirit through his positive and aggressive yet channeller approach. Only 6 minutes later the deficit was reduced when the resilient Haley won and converted a penalty. Another 6 minutes later the deficit was one, when debutant substitute Jake Stinton marauded down the right hand side to cross for Haley to grab a second. The game really opened up and Nomads had to take risks, coming close through Haley, 16 year old Conor Harwood and substitute Tom Bridges. Unfortunately, the champions were not to be denied and time ran out. A tough afternoon for Nomads U19s but plenty of positives to encourage them of a strong finish.
