Meeting for the second time in four days the local derby started at a frantic pace with both teams testing their respective keepers early on, the first clear cut chance fell to Cai Penny Williams when he broke down the left and lobbed the Waen keeper only to fire into the side netting. Bontnewydd debutant Darryl Edwards then saved well with his feet from Jac Evans, with Waenfawr gaining a level of success through winger Evans and midfield anchor man Ioan Gwynedd it seemed only a matter of time before they scored and when a weak clearance from the foot of goalkeeper Edwards fell to Guto Llewelyn he finished well to give the Beganif’s the lead.
Despite good possession the home side failed to build on their lead with Gwynedd sending a rasping drive just over the upright and Llewelyn failing to connect with a Jac Evans cross with the goal gaping. Forward Cai Penny Williams then sent a good chance straight at Guto Evans in the Waenfawr goal who parried well, with much of Bontnewydd’s play involving long ball’s to player manager Ian Pleming it was from his flick that Gwion Rowlands tested Evans with a low drive as did Pleming himself on the half hour.
A reshuffle at half time saw Dylan Price move to right wing replacing the injured Rowlands with Thomas Philp coming on at right back, the visitors started well with a Cian Hughes curler just sailing over the Beganif’s crossbar. With some full blooded tackles flying about Waenfawr’s central defender Hywel Jones was forced to leave the pitch with a nasty head injury after a clash with Pleming. With Waenfawr now pressing for a second it eventually came from the boot of the impressive Jac Evans who had been a thorn in Bontnewydd’s side all afternoon, he unleashed a wonderful volley from 25 yards to give Edwards no chance and extend his sides lead.
From the restart Dylan Price evaded several challenges before sending a powerfull drive low to Evans’ right but the young glovesman pulled off a fantastic save, from the resulting corner Pleming was first to the cross but could only direct his header over the bar. With less than five minutes remaining a long range effort from Cai Penny Williams bounced over oncoming keeper Evans and trickled into the empty net, however Waenfawr retained possession well for the final minutes and completed the double over the young Bontnewydd side.
