As we battle to take 3 points against fellow strugglers CPD Llanfairpwll

Yesterday (21/04/18), we faced fellow strugglers and bottom club CPD Llanfairpwll in a massive game for both clubs. After Thursday Night’s good performance, it was key to carry on momentum into this game. 3 changes were made as in came Matty, Steffan and Iwan replacing Andy, Jerome and Geth Nelson.

First Half was pretty tight and even, with both teams trying to force the issue and get that most important first goal of the game but apart from a couple of half chances by former Llanfairpwll player Iwan Williams, there was nothing else to report as it was a tight, cagey and nervy affair as it would be expected, with both teams couldn’t afford to lose the game.

Half Time - Llan 0 - 0 Llanfair

Second Half pretty much started the the same as the first, but Llan were seeing much more of the ball but couldn’t find the final telling pass. First chance of the second half fell to Gethin Hughes when a corner came in and fell to his feet but he couldn’t convert the chance and the ball went agonisingly wide. Couple of changes were made as Jerome and Aled came on for Matty and Steffan. When it seemed that the game was going to finish a goalless draw, on 70 minutes, another former CPD Llanfairpwll player Mark Jones received the ball from a clearance and with the ball on the bounce, he launched a rocket from about 25 yards out which rifled into the top corner of the net giving the opposition GK no chance at all - a bolt from the blue but what a bolt it was. To be fair to CPD Llanfairpwll, they kept fighting until the end giving us a lot of frightening moments with a couple of good chances of their own the best coming from their substitute who fired just wide of the far post with Pete Finn stranded in the middle of the goal. As the final whistle went much to the relief of the home team and fans - a massive 3 points were gained to push us clear from CPD Llanfairpwll and most importantly gain our first win at home this season.

Full Time - Llan 1 - 0 Llanfair

All in all, not the best game to watch but most importantly was the 3 points and what a goal it was as well, worthy of winning any football match as so it was the case in this matter - surely a contender for goal of the season. Well done to all the lads for fighting till the end and gaining the win and thanks you all that turned up and supported us. We have a break now until Tuesday 1st May, where we make the short trip to face Amlwch Town FC in another mouthwatering derby - Kick Off is at 6:30pm
