CROWS AVENGE THE BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY DEFEAT TO THE OAKS.

By

A far better performance sees the Crows enter the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying draw on Monday.

Oaks cut out of the draw at the Gallagher.
The Crows go in to the FA Cup draw on Monday after a far better performance sees them defeat visitors Sevenoaks Town 2-0 with goals from Attwood and Muggeridge and gain some satisfaction after losing to them in the league 1-0 only five days previously.
Changes were made to the team for this game, Walder, who has a knee injury, was replaced by Pring, Carrington dropped to the bench and Treleaven was moved from a wing-back role he occupied on Bank Holiday Monday to partner Attwood in the forward line, Clarke coming in to the team to fulfil the wing-back role. One other change saw Muggeridge come in to the side as captain which meant that Danny Ellis dropped to the bench.
The Crows kicked off and from the first minute went on the attack which led to them taking the lead after 5 minutes, a deep cross from Clarke was met at the back post by Muggeridge, his volleyed shot come cross then found Attwood in the centre of the goal, eight yards out and unmarked and he tapped the ball home passed a helpless Holloway in the Oaks goal for 1-0.
This match was a far better spectacle for the spectators than the game on Bank Holiday Monday and both teams went forward at every opportunity, the Crows and Oaks had chances throughout the rest of the half, Irvine perhaps should have equalised in the 12th minute but as he slid in he put the ball over the bar from only a yard out.
The Crows just shading it in quantity and performance when it came to chances and possession however, it remained 1-0 up to half-time.
The Oaks started the second half but found themselves 2-0 in the 47th minute, a great passing move from the Crows ended with Attwood stepping over the ball, letting it run to the unmarked Muggeridge just inside the Oaks area, his shot beating Holloway all ends up and the ball nestled in the corner of the net, a great move and a great finish.
Attwood then hit the underside of the bar with a shot from the edge of the area after 50 minutes and only a minute later the bar was struck again, Phipp hitting a shot from some 25 yards out which gave Holloway no chance but the woodwork came to his rescue once again.
The Oaks then made a couple of substitutions and Irvine made Ellis in the Crows goal make a great save in the 59th minute with a header that looked destined for the top corner before Ellis dived and caught the ball safely in his hands.
The Oaks did hit the bar themselves in the 76th minute, Ripley heading the ball back across the goal only to see it rebound to safety and the score remained 2-0 to the Crows. After 4 minutes of added on time the final whistle blew and the Crows are through to the next round.
Compared to the league game, the Crows passing was better, there wasn't so many long balls and the movement from the team all over the pitch was far better. The effort and commitment was definitely up a couple of notches too which helped the Crows defeat a good Oaks side.
Whilst there was only one stand out person for the Man of the Match award for the Crows in the league game, there were plenty of candidates in this FA Cup fixture, Tear, Turner and White at the back, Clarke, Phipp and Pring in midfield whilst Attwood and Treleaven were superb up front. However, after some discussion, it went to Treleaven for his performance throughout the 90 minutes, a never say die attitude, a performance full of running and support for his team mates and his fellow striker, a great afternoons work all through.
All that remains now is to find out who the Crows will play in the next round, personally, I can't wait for the FA Cup draw to be made.
