Dartmouth RFC returned to winning ways last Saturday ,when they overwhelmed a New Cross team at Newton Abbot by 61-0.
New Cross , are not having the best of seasons and were looking for their first win .
The match was referred by Mr Paul Simon of the Devon RFU.
After the Riversiders lost last week to Exeter Saracens, we saw a different side take the field against New Cross.
The Club put on a polished performance and showed control in the Pack, greater discipline and gave away less penalties.
It was not a day for kicking, with a bitterly cold gusting wind sweeping across the pitch.
Straight from the Kick off, Dartmouth took the game to New Cross and after good quick ball, hooker and ( Birth Day Boy) Tom Clark took a pass 22 mtrs out and weaved himself through for the first try.
Within 5 minutes, a loose ball was kicked up field by Jack (flash) Gordon, which was gathered up by Richard Lobb who went over for a try.
Converted by Matt Hawkins
Pressure by the Dartmouth eight resulted in breaks by Tom Clark and Karl Caunter, passing to to number 8 Alex Parrot, who used his height to dive over in the corner for a try .
Some good runs through the centre of the field by Dave Champion, resulted in a maul and quick ball found Hooker Tom Clark who, on 25 minutes went over for his second try.
Dartmouth were prepared to run the ball whenever possible and this was shown when Tom Clark and Captain John Dingle popped up in the three quarters to gain ground before passing to number 10 Matt Hawkins who dummied before passing to Karl Caunter who scored in the corner .
Half time Score 27 -0.
Within 3 minutes of the second half, Dartmouth had scored again , it was the combination of Clark and Caunter in the forwards who released quick ball which saw number 13 Rickey Seymour crossing for a try.
The one way pressure from the Dartmouth pack resulted, in winger Xaviar Picot (Birthday Boy,) drifting inside , to take a pass in the centre to score from 10 meters out.
Arron Hunt converted.
Due to injuries number ,7 will Lockerbie found himself in the three quarter line and he and Jack Gordon made some probing runs up field which were supported by the Dartmouth pack resulting in No 4 Ryan Burrows scoring under the posts. Converted by Arron Hunt.
The try of the match must go to Dartmouth Hooker Karl Caunter, who gathered a loose ball and ran 35 mtrs through the opposition .
Dartmouth kept the pressure on right up until the final whistle and this resulted in veteran Hooker Reg Varney gathering poor line out ball and crashing over the line from 3 mtrs out.
Final score New Cross 0- Dartmouth 61.
Dartmouth Club Captain John Dingle said after the game,
"Training this week has paid off. We were more in control of our own set play.
We controlled the game and the team supported players when they broke the line of defence. Lack of discipline in previous weeks has cost us points and territory on the pitch, but we were much improved today.
We have bounced back with a convincing win and we look forward next Saturday when we entertain North Tawton "
Dartmouth RFC players and committee nominated Hooker Karl Caunter as player of the match.
The club would also like to thank "Dartmouth Skips" who are kindly sponsoring next weeks match.
The club ask that the town get behind us and show their support for another tough Devon Division 1 game at home, Dartmouth V North Tawton, KO 2.30PM Norton playing fields next to the leisure centre.
