Quality keeper joins the new squad at Denbigh

Dewi and Matt have now secured the transfer of an experienced quality keeper who agreed to make the move from Bala Town to Denbigh before the start of the new season.

29yr old Craig Thomas Vernon is a popular six footer who was at Chester Academy from 16yrs to 19yrs and then went to Caernarfon Town in 2008. He later moved to Connahs Quay Nomads, Witton Albion, Bala for a few years, although in fairness his appearances were limited. He then moved briefly to Northwich Victoria but after only seven games he received a nasty injury which kept him out for most of that season. He then went back to Bala before being released from his contract to allow him to spend time travelling in New Zealand and Australia.

Craig signed for Bala again this term to assist them whilst they were still in Europe. With Bala losing to San Marino's Tre Fiori Craig wanted the chance to claim a first choice place at a decent level and agreed to a transfer to Denbigh Town.

We asked him how he felt about his move and Craig told us " Very comfortable with the move and looking forward to the new season. I was No 2 to Ash Morris at Bala - which is a great club by the way. He is an incredible keeper, a fantastic player and I would not be able to take his place from him. He is so good. I wanted to try for a club that plays at a high level and hoped to claim that first choice spot and go for it whilst I still can [ laughing ] . Denbigh fits the bill and I know Dewi and Tony from Bala so that helps too. "

Matty added " We are delighted o welcome a player of Craig's ability to the club. He brings with him a wealth of experience and adds a huge amount to the squad we are putting together."

Denbigh would like to thank Bala Town for all their help in this move and a special thanks goes to Ruth Crump for her efficient attention and quick responses to any queries.

Denbigh have a number of friendly pre season games before the campaign starts proper which will allow the players to get to know each other and gel into a team. Fixtures are on this website and you will see that an extra game at Bala has been squeezed in to the original published list. Also note that this Saturday's friendly at Newtown AFC is an earlier kick off at 1pm.
