Diss U16s & 17s put together a team against Norwich of development for next seasons colts.
U17s Ed Bullock, George Easton, Tim Watson, Joss Mellor and Declan Bowing.
U16s Dan Blackburn, Matthew Baxter, Dan Whiting, Sam Fawcett, Rob Duffield, Tom Elkins, Fred Sargent, John Webster, James Webster, George Jones, Ben Brown, Tom Jacka, Kyle Harwood- Lefevre. Nat Strange. Diss played Southwold for the third time this Season, a good home win early in the season, narrowly losing in an away game. This time meeting on mutual ground for a decider. Southwold kindly loaned a player to play 15 aside.
Diss out off the blocks early to set the standard for the game, fast pace, good quick hands for Ben Brown to claim the first try. James Webster with his speed to score next. A knock on from Diss straight into opposing hands through a gap for Southwold to score. A setback for Diss as Fred Sargent on the receiving end of a hand off with a possible finger in the eye left the field with no further action seeking medical treatment. Diss now playing with 14 players, were hit with another try from Southwold. 10 - 10. Diss stepped up a gear. Tries from George Jones, Tom Elkins, George converted. Then Tom Jacka, John Webster and Mathew Baxter, again George converted this one, all scored tries to bring the half time score to 10 - 39 in Diss favour.
The second half started, Southwold had regrouped, came on strong and quick with a converted try. George Jones scored another from Diss. Diss were noticibly tiring and fading, made it difficult for themselves, errors of knockons forward passes and offsides slowed their progress. Southwold hit Diss again with another converted try. But weren't totally done, a run in try from Nat Strange with the last try of the day.
Diss played a good game on the day with their speed, excellent hands, teamwork and shear hardwork, produced an exciting enjoyable game, even playing a man down. With a final score of Southwold 22 - 49 Diss. Well done them.
A hard fought game played on a very hard pitch took its toll on several knees. Two fairly evenly balanced teams played different types of games. Diss a running team and Norwich a crashing team.
Early handling errors from both teams, Diss Settled early holding Norwich in their half a while. Good hands led James Webster to score the first try for Diss into the right corner. George Jones found a hole up front to run in the second try for Diss. Norwich turned the tables to put pressure on Diss, but the Diss boys with a catalog of tackles held them off. George Easton took an opportunity to run in another try for Diss, Ed Bullock converted. Half time Diss 17 - 0 Norwich.
Lots of to and fro early in the second half, Norwich with a forward drive scoring with a pushover try. A few minutes later scoring a similar try, then converting. 17 -12. Norwich were catching up.
Then hearing a call, come on boys Diss are tiring, which it seemed they were. Diss weren't finished, John Webster spotted a gap up front, ran through but was tackled down just before the line but was able to pop the up for George Jones to score the final try with Ed Bullock converting.
Let's hope both ages can put forward most of their players for next season as there is a promising team there. The final score, Diss 24 - 12 Norwich. A good game and a good result.
