Last Saturday, Dulwich Hamlet travelled down into Kent to play another of the playoff hopefuls, Tonbridge Angels. The result was a hard-fought 0-0 draw.
Conditions were not ideal as the pitch was hard and the bounce uneven, making it difficult for both sides to play the ball around. Despite this, Dulwich enjoyed much the better of the first half and it was disappointing not to go in at the break with at least a one goal led. The first real threat from the Hamlet came in the 12th minute when a low drive from Nathan Green was almost turned into his own net by a Tonbridge defender, the ball looping up and over the bar. The closest Dulwich came to a breakthrough was in the 28th minute when Dipo Akinyemi head a left-wing cross from Nathan Green against the crossbar. Dipo later fires over from 15 yards and Gavin Tomlin went close with a chip over the ‘keeper which went the wrong side of the far post. Just before the interval Angels’ ‘keeper Jonny Henly made a fine save when he tipped over a 20 yarder from Ashley Carew.
Tonbridge came more into the game in the second half and had an early opportunity, but Alex Akrofi failed to make the most of a cross from Nick Wheeler. That apart, chances were few and far between at either end Sanchez Ming fluffed his shot when set up by Michael Chambers on 69 minutes and, late on Nathan Elder’s header was well held by Preston Edwards. But this was a day when defenders took the honours and in the end both sides had to settle for a point, which was probably a fair result overall.
