The Colts first home game against Winchester was a good test for a new team, who'd never played together before. The wet conditions made for a tricky start with a few ball handling errors, but the team settled well. The forwards dominated the scrum, pushing the Winchester pack backwards in every scrum. Winchester attacked from the off with much of the early action in the Ellingham half, but the defence held up well under intense pressure only letting Winchester through for one try. Ellingham hit back quickly scoring two tries in quick succession, the first from Jake Penrose, and the second from Henry Turner. There were no conversions, so the score at half time was 10-5 to Ellingham.
The second half continued to be tight but Ties Hill Ris Lambers managed to get the ball over the line after a concerted push by the Ellingham forwards. A few unfortunate yellow card incidents affected both sides and saw Winchester pull ahead 20-15, but a late run by Louis Harling pulled the scores back level just before full time.
All in all a great result for the team.
