DAVE GEAR, Enfield Ignatians' all action flanker, has capped a stellar season after being awarded the coveted Player of the Year award at the players' dinner on Friday evening (April 28).

One of the standouts of the team, Gear consistently delivered the goods during the 22-game
league season when he impressed with his very high work rate and productivity around the park.

Captain Keir Bonnar, who presented the award, said: "Dave has come back ever than ever since his
injury and has had an excellent season. He's an out and out seven {openside flanker} who carries the ball well, has good hands and who certainly makes his tackles. He has also set himself very high standards and is a good role model for other players."

Luke Stack topped the top trainer award and Cairo Sango, who made a successful transition from junior to senor level made off with the players' player award. Both are products of the youth section and, during one memorable autumn afternoon, Sango hit Belsize Park for four second-half tries.

The second team, third in Herts-Middlesex Merit Table Two, also went with youth when it came to deciding the Player of the Season which went the way of home-grown talent, Jake Baker, following a series of excellent performances in the team's tight-eight.

Eron Dottin-Wilson (players' player) and Daroush Fayaz (man of steel) were other award winners.

The third team, beaten cup finalists in their league, made Adam Collins their player of the season. Wayne Bloomfield (players' player) and Leon Nicholls (man of steel) were other award winners.
