THREES TURN THEIR ATTENTIONS TO CUP SEMI-FINAL AFTER FULLERS' DEFEAT

By

Writes Jon Landi

The omnipresent threes did suffer a mauling at the hands of a very slick Fullerians outfit, which is looking a very good bet for the title granted that the Watford side has a couple of games in hand vis-à-vis their Derby rivals Watford IIs, but the season for the Herts-Middlesex Merit Table Four newcomers is far from over.

Steve Renny said: "We have an all important cup semi-final clash (Saturday April 8) against Black Horse on the horizon, and that is now our main goal and focus. We played well in parts against Fullers who are a very strong team and who will probably go on and win the division."

The early force was certainly with Fullerians in they set out their stall by running-in three tries, but Ignatians chipped away at the visitors lead and Tom Sears, playing his first senior game, marked the occasion with a memorable debutant's try.

Another of the side's youngsters, Glory Makabukidi, also left his imprint on proceedings as Ignatians
claimed a second-try which left the hosts hanging on to Fullers' coat-tails at 19-10 down.

However, it was in a bad 20 minute spell after the break in which a dominant Fullers ruthlessly punished Ignatians with a flurry of tries as the game went beyond recall.

Ignatians re-surfaced belatedly as a force in the final ten minutes. Throwing everything into attack,
the blue and golds were eventually rewarded for their positive approach, and the sun did indeed shine on the righteous as veteran Clive Alexander claimed a popular consolation score.
