THREES REFLECT ON GOOD FIRST-HALF PERFORMANCE

By

Writes Jon Landi

The threes played to their strengths and their side, combining youth and experience, can dwell on a bold first-half performance which enable them to keep tabs on the league leaders - so much so that the blue and golds were still very much in the hunt at 14-5 down at the interval.
The blue and golds used the driving maul to good effect and weren't adverse to going down the pick up and go route, and was it was from a series of such a carries that the forwards scored their first-half try - with prop Rob Gardener making the all important breach.
The second-half was a different as the greater cohesiveness of Hatfield kick-in and a well organised and structured side, with its well rehearsed repertoire of moves, inevitably drew clear on the scoreboard.
However, Ignatians, in parts, continued to play some good rugby; not least when they neatly set up an attacking maul from the lineout, and the hard-work of the tight eight paid off in spades after captain Steve Renny secured a well-taken pushover score.
Steve Renny said: "Our second score was initiated by a good take at the lineout from Paul Winship. You have to credit the character of the side as we never stopped trying and played to the whistle. "
