AGM Report

By Paul Watson

Great turnout and a very positive outcome!

On Sunday 21st January the club came together for the Annual General Meeting. A 46-strong contingent were welcomed to the meeting with the presentation of a cheque to Craig Stockton, CEO, Motor Neurone Disease (Scotland) for whom we raised a further £550 from our festive raffle in December.

The main focus of the meeting was looking to the future. With the 1st XI relegated from the Eastern Premiership in 2017 the plan is to focus on whole club development, rebuild and have a sole purpose of continuing to develop from within, bringing our fantastic juniors through the system and building a sustainable club capable of challenging at the top echelons of cricket in Scotland for many years to come.

The majority of our cricket in 2018 will be played in the Strathmore Union (SPCU) although we will retain ties to the East League via the 3rd XI. The club feels that it is the right time to make this change creating new and exciting challenges which will hopefully be enjoyed by our playing membership.

The shining light at the club are our juniors (Falkland Falcons) and it was reported that there were 77 junior members in 2017 with 18 of those girls. Coaching at the club and in the local schools with the opportunity to work with coach Harsha Cooray are noted as being significant contributing factors to this; as is the recently launched All Stars from which we benefited from 20 new members in 2017. A continuation of the same (with more juniors) is expected in 2018 and soon to be announced is a comprehensive programme of coaching/playing for the juniors ahead of the 2018 season.

The club has re-engaged the services of Harsha Cooray who is proving to be a real hit after returning “home” from his sabbatical in Aberdeen and Ben Strachan will again join the club for the summer - both are infectious characters and cricket enthusiasts who we are delighted to have.

The club remains faced with many challenges; non-more so the need for a new clubhouse at Scroggie Park and the ongoing need for funding. The newly formed committee of 20 members (a record number for FCC) has a fantastic blend of skills, knowledge and experience to help enable and enhance the club across the board both on and off the pitch.

All in all, a hugely positive meeting with the collective all in agreement about the future vision of the club as a whole.
