Fawley Rugby Football Club (RFC) Rugby on the Waterside for all

Fawley RFC Monthly Newsletter October 2017

By Ross Macfarlane

Club News update

September and October so far have been very busy months for everyone at Fawley RFC. With the start of the new season and all the other exciting things that’s going on. So, very sorry for no newsletter in September.
Socials
The junior and senior social secretaries are busy planning when and where we can hold social functions and fund-raising events. Some of these events are already in the event section on the web site.
Newlands Park
Lots of work has been taking place over the last couple of months with the club development at Newlands park. We have now reached a full agreement with the RFU to have our much-needed flood lights installed. The RFU will contribute £25,000 towards the installation costs. These are due to be installed at the end of the current season. Planning permission will be submitted shortly.
As well as club funds going towards the floodlight project we will be looking externally for grants and funding. Also raising funds within the club. This is a big challenge for the club, but one I feel we will accomplish.
As part of the floodlight project we need to install electrical power to the site. It is our plan to ensure we put in big enough power supply for the club house when this is built.
With the introduction of training lights this will give us the potential to offer training for more teams in the evening, both at junior and senior level and maybe introduce walking rugby for the older rugby player ( Another project we are looking into). The flood lights will not only help Fawley RFC retain players but will also help to attract new players with a better training facility to offer.
We have now received back the amended plans for the club house. These are now ready to submit for planning permission. A copy of which will be up loaded to the web site.
Planning permission has also been granted to have another smaller container installed. This will be a welfare unit/ first aid post / bacon and tea stand. Hopefully soon this will be in place.
Rugby Development
Paul Patrick has now organised several coaching courses, so again if you are interested in coaching please get in touch with Paul.
The first of the all school’s rugby matches should have taken place on the 9th October, but due to the schools not organising themselves this had to be cancelled to the disappointment of our U14 girls. The next all schools match is planned for the 16th October so come along and promote the club.
Junior rugby
The junior section has seen some fantastic games over the past few weeks. With wins over Eastleigh and Tottonians. On Sunday 15th they are away at the Alton rugby festival.
Also, the U14 took part in a Hampshire cup game away against Portsmouth. I am very pleased to say the won by a massive score 5-55.
This Sunday will see the boys U14 play against Eastleigh at home so good luck on Sunday
The U14 girls team is going from strength to strength. They all received their new rugby shirts last Sunday.
Senior Rugby
The senior sides have had a varied start to the season. The 2nds have had 2 wins then 3 postponed games due to player numbers. The 1st XV got a close win against Nomads but then sadly 2 loses against Romsey then Aldershot and Fleet. Both hard fought games. The next senior fixtures will see 2nd XV against Tottonians and the 1st XV against Farnborough.
AOB
Please get in touch if you have any fund-raising idea’s or have any suggestions for the club. As ever we are always looking for people to help in any way they can to help with continual growth and running of the club.
