A Good Showing Against A Strong 'Borough Side

After a few weeks off, Fleetwood looked to build on their first win of the season against a Littleborough side that had also had a tough start to the season.

A strong squad was available for the home side and was on full show from the off as Fleetwood looked to get an early lead. As Fleetwood kicked off they showed their intentions from the off to use their large forwards as a battering ram up the field. From a line out, 'Fleet took the ball down and drove hard for the line. After a few attempts from the forwards, Skipper Jack Foden pulled off his trade mark 30cm dive over the line to score. Conversion missed.

From this confidence was high and Fleetwood looked to build the points and got the opportunity to add 3 from a penalty. Which Fly Half Pearce slotted with ease.

This appeared to be the wake up call that Littleborough needed, as they came back with a fury, gleefully running through the makeshift Fleetwood back line and they started to pile on the points.

At half time the call was made to up the defensive work rate and force the opposition back into their own end like the early portion of the first half.

Littleborough were relentless in their attack as their backs were having a field day cutting lines to score more and more tries. Fleetwood were just a little lucky that the 'Borough kicker was useless in front of the sticks.

Fleetwood started playing again and piling up the pressure on the away side who could not handle the bigger home side's pack. This culminated with Hooker and the King Of Pop Michael Jackson crashing over to score. Conversion missed.

Continuing on from this Fleetwood got on the score sheet again after replacement Jonny Bridges took the ball from deep to be stopped agonizingly short. Fortunately Skipper Foden was there to pick the ball up and perform another trademark spectacular 30cm dive. Conversion missed.

Littleborough again woke up and score a couple of unconverted tries.

Full Time: 18 v 50

Scorers

Tries: Foden(2); Jackson.
Penalties: Pearce.

In the end it was a good performance by Fleetwood who stuck it out until the end. It's just a little disappointing that the away side had to stack the side a little bit. This could have been a very competitive fixture.

Man of the Match

After discussions between Manager Chris Travis and Skipper Foden, names such as O'Hara, Hargreaves and Barnes came up, but the award this week goes to No. 10 Josh Pearce.

The Weekly Sam Pook Report

Sam didn't play this week as he was somewhere in the North Sea on a boat. 0/10 for effort. Recently Sam has asked me to stop this section of the report, as he feels as if he has had enough of it and the joke has run its' course. I will have a think and asses it. Any Feedback on this situation would be welcome.
