Mountain Outclassed By Offa

By

Bad day at the office as Offa Athletic claim a well deserved win over Flint Mountain at Gresford Colliery Club

Fresh from a week off last weekend, Flint Mountain were back in action this week and made a second trip to the Gresford Colliery Club to take on Offa Athletic. Offa have so far beaten the Mountain twice this season, but Flint Mountain would come into the game with confidence, after coming off the back of a well earned win over Halkyn United. Manager Rob Marshall was also able to give a debut to recently signed midfielder, Ryan Parry.

Offa started the game much better than their opponents and seemed to quickly adapt to the pitch conditions. With eight minutes gone, they opened the scoring. After winning the ball in their own half, Offa raced forward with a quick break down the right, working the ball into the box before the ball found the back of the net. Offa continued to press and were causing problems for the Flint Mountain defence. At the half way point of the first half, Offa deservedly doubled their lead. Down the left, the Offa player skipped past two missed Flint Mountain tackles, before a simple pass found his teammate unmarked and the ball found the back of the net.

It took almost forty minutes for Flint Mountain to muster a shot on goal, with a miss-hit shot somehow hitting the bottom of the post, before another effort was well blocked by the Offa defence. In the second half, Flint Mountain come out fighting and looking for a way back into the match. David James Jones had a great opportunity to get a goal back, as he raced forward having got behind the Offa defence. As the goalkeeper come out, Jones knocked the ball past him, but was unable to find the net, as the ball rolled harmlessly into the side netting.

With twenty minutes remaining, Offa then delivered a knock out blow by hitting a third goal. Heading back to his own goal, defender Joey Davies lost the ball to the Offa attacker, who then struck a low effort, which found the net from a tight angle. With time running out, Flint Mountain tried their best to muster at least a consolation goal, but ultimately their efforts proved futile.

Next up for Flint Mountain is a another road trip, where awaiting us will be Acton. Flint Mountain triumphed 4-2 just last month and they will be looking for a similar performance to put the memories of this week to bed quickly.
