Hughes Double Helps Mountain To Win

By

A Mark Hughes double helps Flint Mountain to a comfortable win against struggling Bradley Park at the Northop Hall Pavilion

Defeat against Acton on Saturday had put an end to the recent winning form for Flint Mountain, but the end of the bank holiday pitched Flint Mountain against Bradley Park at the Northop Hall Pavilion. Once again, changes were needed due to players being unavailable. The lack of a goalkeeper continued, with Leon Pickford required to deputise in goal. Coming back into the side were Keiran Farr, Dylan Evans and David James Jones.

Flint Mountain were on the front foot from the whistle, getting forward into advanced positions, but efforts from Jimmy McGlone and David James Jones did not test the goalkeeper. Bradley held out until midway through the half, when Flint Mountain took the lead through Mark Hughes. Getting down the right, Jimmy McGlone delivered the ball into the box and Mark Hughes arrived late, volleying the ball off the post and into the net, for his first goal since September.

The heat, coupled with the amount of recent games, meant the pace of the game was slower than in previous games, and it wasn't until just after a much needed halt time break that the Mountain doubled their lead. After a slick passing move, the ball found Jimmy McGlone, who flicked the ball into the path of strike partner Jack Aitken, who made no mistake from close range.

Bradley were struggling to make any kind of impact going forward and Flint Mountain duly took advantage, by adding a third goal. It was Mark Hughes who suddenly added his second of the game, flicking on a shot on goal past the Bradley goalkeeper. David James Jones got into the act by getting the fourth Mountain goal, running through on goal and firing low into the bottom corner. With ten minutes remaining, Dylan Evans then added a fifth goal, tapping in from a yard out after a brief goalmouth scramble.

Next up for Flint Mountain is another trip to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium, where they will face off with Airbus Academy. The Academy side got the better of the previous meeting in the Premier Cup semi-final, so the Mountain will be looking for revenge.
