Gresley 1 Frickley 6

The Joy Of Six!!!

The game started with a guard of honour for Gresley player & team captain Jamie Barrett who was playing his 400th game for the club. It was a day he'll never forget - his scored an OG to bring us back level, got booked, saw his team ship 6 goals & then quit straight after the game, ending 17 years with the club. The majority of the playing squad & the team management followed suit & fell on their swords too (more of this later). Must have been something we said.......

Jameel came back into the starting 11 & that aside it was the same team as Monday vs Carlton.

The Gresley playing surface is rather unusual in that you kick uphill irrespective of which direction you play & Frickley gave themselves a uphill task as some rather pedestrian defending meant that Gresley took the lead on 4 minutes with an unchallenged header from a corner.

It took a while for Les Verts to get into their stride & we created a few half chances but nothing to particularly worry their keeper. Then came a flurry of activity from Ben Algar corners, with an effort cleared off the line & Jammer header saved. After 15 minutes we achieved parity as previously discussed - a Darkenbauer exocet is flicked on by a Frickley player & then flicked on again, into the onion bag (not you Jerry), by a (soon to be ex) Gresley player.

More Frickley attacking sees Sam Liversidge (more of him later) hit a shot just wide. Frickley had a promising break brought to a halt as Tom Dugdale broke out of his own half & into the Gresley half & then gets 'tackled' with something that was half Bill Beaumont & half Honeyboy Zimba! A Gresley player simply grabbed Duggie round the waist & threw him to the floor - I've never seen anything like it since Kent Walton retired!

The redoubtable Duggie then pinged in a lovely cross that simply needed touching in but it evaded every Green shirt. Then Sam Liversidge set Tom up with a good chance but the shin, that was so accurate against Belper, let him down this time. Haze instigated a move that saw Frickley have 4 bites of the same cherry but we couldn't finish it off, Duggie putting the final chance over.

HALF TIME - GRESLEY 1 FRICKLEY 1

10 minutes into the half, Spen changed it around a little as Duggie, who had been a constant thorn in Gresleys side, was replaced by.......Gavin Allott!!! It took him all of 5 minutes to change the game. Frickley had a succession of chances, Tyler Walton forcing a great save from the keeper, Jammer with a towering header kept out by a combo of keeper & crossbar & then 2 goal line clearances before the inevitable happened. Haze with a magnificent burst down the left puts the ball into the danger area, the momentum of Gavs initial effort puts him on his posterior & as the ball drops he simply side foots it home whilst sat on the floor!! 2-1 & at that point someone opened the floodgates! 5 minutes later, Reece McGinley cuts inside & plays the ball out to Haze who dinks a delicious ball into the box, the Gresley defenders all play 'What's the time Mr Wolf' & Gav says thank you very much & heads home for our 3rd & his 2nd.

That was Reeces final activity as he was replaced by George Milner & Richie Patts was replaced by Jack Burton (great to see JB back in a Frickley shirt). Milners first foray sees him pick up (not literally) a Gav flick & roll it to Tyler Walton who rolled it into the net. 4-1.

Next up the marauding Darkenbauer gets past his man in the box & is brought down - penner & Gav sends the keeper the wrong way. 5-1 & Gav gets a hat trick in 14 minutes, his 4th hat trick of the season.

Next up is the goal of the game. It starts with Sam Liversidge near his own corner flag, he passes it infield to George Milner. Milner releases Tyler who feeds the ball out wide to Haze. Haze repeats the dink cross & Gav repeats the easy header into a gaping goal. Gavs 4th of the afternoon, 27th of the season & his 115th career goal. Gav is 6th highest all time scorer & is closing in on Didi Compton (117) & George Orange, who my dad used to praise very highly (Orange got 118). We have now scored 111 league goals (a record for Evostik South, beating Coalvilles 108) & 133 altogether.

That's 9 undefeated now - 8 wins & the draw against Basford

I've seen nearly all of the 133 goals but yesterdays were my last for a short while as I will be overseas, scouting for players for next season, starting with FC Tossa. Don't worry, I leave you in the formidable hands of Chris & Ken so you should see a massive improvement.

This football club has given me plenty of joy this season, so PLEASE get behind them for the remaining fixtures, turn out in numbers & BRING THE NOISE!

WEBMASTER MOTM - Ben Algar was excellent as was Tyler. Haze was magnificent as a left winger 2nd half. Any other day of the week Sam Liversidge is a shoe in for MOTM but if anyone thinks I'm brave enough NOT to give the Glitterball to Big Daddy then they overestimate my fortitude. Gav was simply a wrecking ball when he came on & he left the Gresley team in ruins. Salut!

202 through the gate with massive numbers from Frickley - thank you once again for backing your team.

A thought - Frickley had to replay our game vs Spalding, at the leagues behest. Both teams & the ref were happy for the original result to stand but the league insisted that we replay 'to maintain the integrity of the league competition'. Gresley have 3 fixtures remaining & they will be fielding under 18s mainly as a result of the walkout by most of their squad after yesterdays game - does that 'maintain the integrity of the league competition'?? This is not a dig at Gresley by the way - they were very welcoming hosts, apart from the Haribo Ultras who gave young Medwell dogs abuse over his extravagant blouse (Pretty Green apparently) & his bouffant (Vidal Baboon apparently).

Final bit from me - GET BEHIND THIS TEAM, GET THEM OVER THE LINE, BRING THE NOISE. FORZAFRICKLEY!!

Next up, Peterborough at Bigfellas Wezziecana on Tuesday night

Iyi geceler from me!!
