Triumph over adversity

Cometh the hour, cometh the man - & in this instance that man was James Morris!

Frickley bounced back from their reverse in midweek with a solid performance under testing circumstances. Gav returned to the starting line up after his recent scouting mission, The Shef made his full debut & new boy Alistair Smith came in as did Sam Liversidge. It was Alistair who almost made an instant impact when he hit a long range shot which the keeper saved on the line but then lost control of the ball & squeezed out from under his body. It was exactly the same as the goal awarded to Marske against us recently but this time it wasn't awarded for some reason...

Frickley had further chances through Haze & McGuire but they weren't able to open the scoring.

Hugo went down under a heavy challenge & received prolonged treatment but was able to soldier on.

Carlton took the lead after Sam Liversidge had a penalty awarded against him for a challenge in the box - at this point Hugo was unable to carry on & left the field. James Morris, on loan striker, stuck his hand up & said "I'll have a crack at this' & donned the gloves.

We were heading for half time & a chance to regroup when The Shef put a lovely ball into the mixer & Jammer powered a header home to make it 1 apiece

HALF TIME - CARLTON 1 FRICKLEY 1

Frickley came out on the front foot & McSheffrey curled a shot just over & then hit a free kick which the keeper saved comfortably. Ali Smith & The Shef were replaced by Tyler & Dangerous Dan Palmer & it was the pair of them that combined next to set up Gav in the box. His first effort was blocked but he made no mistake from the rebound. His 119th goal for the club - he is now 4th highest goalscorer outright. Next in his sights is Dick Lawson with 126.

Haze had a great effort palmed onto the bar by the keeper & out for a corner. The Blues comfortably saw out the game.

Having lost Hugo after half an hour, I've got to mention the performance of the back line. They protected James superbly - & he was confident in his handling of crosses & made 3 excellent saves when he was called upon.

WEBMASTER MOTM - Alistair Smith was impressive on his debut & it was good to see the Haze / Allott combo back in unison. I've already mentioned the back line & McGuire was superb in front of them but it'll be no surprise that the Glitterball is going to James Morris.

98 through the gate with nearly half of those being Frickley fans - another fantastic turn out of away fans, thank you for travelling once again. Stan & Spen really appreciate the away support.

Next up, we're at home to Cleethorpes in the Integro Cup on Tuesday night, see you all there
