Frickley Athletic 0-2 Witton Albion

By

With over half the usual side missing through injury, Frickley's hopes of completing their home programme on a successful note were blown away.

A silence was observed in memory of Bethany Jones, who died in a motorway accident on Friday.

The Blues thought they should have had a penalty when Jamie Wootton was pulled back in the ninth minute, but referee Matt McGrath failed to see the incident.

A shot from Matt Bloor was blocked in the 21st minute and Lee Stratford had a 15 yard drive from the rebound diverted off the visitors line.

Witton took the lead on the half hour, Danny Andrews getting down the left before whipping over a cross for Steve Foster to head in at the far post while, on the stroke of half-time, Jamie Green had to punch a 25 yard free-kick from Andrews from under the bar.

There was a lively response from Frickley after the break, Luke Hinsley having a header well held by Matt Cooper in the 47th minute, while Jake Picton made space on the left edge of the penalty area but then blazed over the bar.

Cooper came out to fist away a 40 yard free-kick from Luke Jeffs after 65 minutes, while at the opposite end, a slick off-side trap took the sting from the Albion attack.

Jeffs provided another accurate free-kick in the 75th minute that saw Patrice Liburd test Cooper with a header, and the visitors were reduced to ten men seven minutes later when Michael Powell received his marching orders for an off the ball incident.

Frickley had brought on youngsters Joe Davies and Reece Fennell in the hope of poaching a point, but Andrews got away on the left in the 89th minute and picked out an unmarked Jamie Harrison who tapped the ball in from six yards.
