Garforth greats - 7 questions - Adam Priestley

Adam rose to prominence at Garforth Town as a goalscorer to be reckoned with. Last year he made his international debut for Gibraltar.

Here are Adams' 7...

1) Where are you currently playing your football (or where did you last play?)

I started the season at Guiseley in the Conference north but I’m back at Farsley AFC and enjoying my football again.

2) How would you describe yourself as a footballer?

Quick, direct and hard working.

3) Which years were you at Garforth Town (roughly)?

I was at Garforth for 2 seasons. I think it was 10-11 and 11-12 seasons.

4) Which was your best season here and why?

The 11-12 season has to be the best by far. We had a great squad of players and finished in the play-offs which was also Garforths highest ever finish. We were very unfortunate not to beat Curzon in the play-offs and give ourselves a chance at promotion. I think if things had worked out differently and that squad had stayed together we would have won the league.

5) Looking back on your time at Garforth, can you pick out three memorable (good or bad) moments?

One memorable moment for me has to be scoring the goal that secured our place in the play-offs last game of the season against Skelmersdale at home. We needed to win to keep it in our own hands and I scored the goal that made it 2-1. It stayed that way and we made the play-offs.

Another has to be the last game of the season again against Chester in the 10-11 season. I remember we went 1-0 down and came back to win 2-1. Both goals were class finishes from our centre backs Matt Dempsey and Darren Kelly. The atmosphere was amazing as they brought around 3000 fans and were on to win the league. They still won the league despite us beating them but it was one of those days you’ll never forget.

The final memory has to be in the 11-12 season on Boxing Day when we played Farsley. Both teams needed a win to keep their play-off push going and it was a local derby. I think again we went 1-0 down and came back to win 2-1. Paul Walker got the goal that won us the game and that sparked a run that got us into the play-offs.

6) Which team mate stood out most in your time here, and for what reasons?

In my time at Garforth there were a lot of good players but the stand out player had to be Paul Walker. He has everything and could play so much higher.

I remember my first training session at Garforth and a saw a scruffy looking guy and thought surely he can’t be very good. I also thought he must be a centre back. At the end of the session we had a game and were put into teams. He got put up front with me and I was like "is he really a striker?" and then I realised that he never gave the ball away, he could turn the same man 3 or 4 times and he scored goals.

He had so much to his game and made it all look so easy. Just a top player all round.

7) Do you have a message for Garforth supporters in their 50th year?

For the supporters who were there during my time I would like to thank you for all the support you gave me whilst I was at the club and the great memories we shared.

I still look out for the results and wish you all the success in the future. Fingers crossed you can get back through the leagues and back to where a great club like Garforth should be.
